New poster for Amanda Seyfried's Gone
A first poster has arrived for missing person thriller Gone, and Amanda Seyfried is looking like a woman on a mission. The film will see Seyfried play Jill Parrish, a young woman who returns from her night shift to find her sister has gone missing. Having been kidnapped herself one year earlier, Jill is sure the same villain has abducted her sister, but the police are unconvinced.Naturally, Jill proceeds to do what any reasonable person would do in the situation, laying her hands on a gun and setting out to take the law into her own hands. All of which sounds like pretty hokey stuff, but with a solid supporting cast containing the likes of Jennifer Carpenter and Wes Bentley, we could be in for some pleasingly trashy thrills. As for the poster, it's a bit of a mess of ideas, with three silhouettes overlapping in rather haphazard fashion. Still, Seyfried looks as though she means business, and that pulpy tagline fits the subject matter a treat.Gone will arrive in UK cinemas on 2 March 2012.

New Haywire images arrive online
Keen to see Ewan McGregor pointing a gun? An aficionado of silhoueted government types? Then you're gonna to love the new batch of images that have arrived in advance of the January release of action thriller Haywire.Aside from Ewan's heat-packing, we also get a look at a moody Channing Tatum, a smiley Gina Carano and, er, a less smiley Gina Carano. We prefer the latter to be honest... the scowl suits her nicely.Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Haywire stars Carano as an elite Black Ops soldier who goes on the run when her superiors try to put one over on her. Yes, it does sound rather a lot like Bourne, doesn't it?Still, that's not to say Soderbergh won't be able to put his own spin on the well-worn avenging agent yarn, and the supporting cast (which also includes Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton and Antonio Banderas) is a big draw in its own right.Haywire arrives in UK screens on 18 January 2012.

Epix evolves by small steps together with a sizable break
Netflix pays Epix lots of money for rights to such photos as Pars Rango.
When the partners behind Epix grew to become an associate of forces over 3 years back, they were quick to talk up their vision of distinguishing their service from extended-established pay TV rivals through which causes it to be easily available to clients on a range of digital platforms."Yeah, sure," was the skeptical response from reporters (that certain incorporated) and biz bloggers: "But how are things prone to convince Comcast and DirecTV to keep another pay TV funnel?"couple of years along with a little after Epix bowed last year, the service possessed by Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM still doesn't have carriage handles Comcast, DirecTV or Time Warner Cable, the holy trinity of subscription TV companies. Nevertheless it does have a very large offer digital realm with Netflix, which remains enough to find out Epix through its infancy. There's no better illustration of how the growing competition for content on emerging digital platforms is aiding old-school Hollywood in comparison to Netflix-Epix partnership. The sale, which needed effect in September 2010, showed up when both sides were in desperate demand for just what the other required to offer: Epix needed distribution and license costs Netflix needed marquee-value movies.5-year Netflix pact, worth about $900 million, switched the tide for your Epix partners overnight. By next fall, the Epix partners will probably be absolve to pursue more digital dollars utilizing their first-run movies when Netflix's two-year window of exclusivity expires.Overall, the Epix partners are really probably doing about additionally to they'd have observed they associated with a regular pay TV output deal. Viacom's Vital Pictures, Lionsgate and MGM banded together in 2008 after Showtime informed these it wouldn't renew their (separate) output deals on one wealthy terms since it had offered formerly."Relative that the old (Showtime) contracts were this really is this is not on the table any longer, (Netflix) appears to become better scenario than getting recognized what Showtime was offering," states BTIG Research analyst Richard Greenfield. "Due to them they were labored it absolutely was the very best decision to produce. I had been very skeptical in the chess game around digital rights, nevertheless it certainly carried out within their favor."So did they get lucky while using timing in the Netflix deal? Or possibly it had been savvy experience? The answer then is both, Epix prexy Mark Greenberg confesses.Greenberg understood digital world would blossom in the large way of Hollywood as clients heated to on-demand an online-based platforms. After 17 years just like a distribution professional with Showtime, Greenberg spent yearly being a consultant to Blockbuster Entertainment before he was employed with the Epix partners. Within the start, Greenberg figured Epix's large digital play might be with Blockbuster. Since it switched out, Blockbuster's fortunes deteriorated as Netflix's leaped."Smartly, we set to achieve that from the very first day. We understood there has been other platforms together with other items that might be much like crucial that you (audiences) as linear TV," Greenberg states. "The advantage of obtaining the art galleries own this (venture) is always that we could move a little more quickly since the marketplace evolves and digital really starts to supply round the promise."However, the the typical understanding is always that Epix under your own accord put within the towel any hope of cutting a deal with Comast, DirecTV or TW Cable in striving using the organization the satellite and cable males see since the enemy. Epix also required to temper its ambition to produce original series within the get-go, though that is still a extended-term goal.Epix now counts about 9.5 million clients so far through its handles cable operators Cox, Charter and Mediacom, satcaster Dish Network as well as the Verizon Fios service. In lots of of people deals, Epix is bundled up up in to a bigger premium movie funnel tier, rather than charging another bill every month a la Cinemax, Showtime or Starz.Epix maintains conversations while using bigger operators, Greenberg demands. There is however without doubt that almost all Epix's viewership arises from Netflix's 23 million-plus subscriber base. The other day Epix established a beachhead on Xbox 360 360 360, which causes it to be available via authentication to clients using the service through Dish Network, Mediacom and Verizon. Epix's history with authentication on various cutting-edge services can be a feature to traditional distribs, according to Greenberg."We could help our clients drive to more youthful demographic that desires to start using these items," according to him. News Corp. braces for investors brawl
R. Murdoch J. MurdochElisabeth MurdochNews Corp. traders are hopping mad and Friday they'll obtain a rare opportunity to slam Rupert Murdoch personally regarding their concerns -- from U.K. phone hacking, to some servile board, to boy James' leadership cred, to purchasing daughter Elisabeth's production company. But regardless of how heated the range could get, change at News Corp. is nearly mathematically impossible without Murdoch's assent. He controls nearly 40% from the Class B voting stock and the close ally, Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, holds 7%. Each and every other investor would need to election like a block against them. However they can continue to send a note. The annual shareholders' meeting, usually in NY City, is going to be held this season in the Zanuck Theater around the twentieth century Fox lot in L.A. where, as several Wall Streeters noted, security could be tightly enforced. There is no parking around the studio lot. News Corp.'s intricate attendance manifesto includes diagrams and a listing of limitations. Nobody is going to be accepted who does not arrive on the company passenger bus that leaves from the parking facility nearby on Century Park West. Yet News Corp.'s experts face a conundrum: regardless of the drama and also the angst, its stock has continued to be sturdy and it is companies are carrying out well. Compelled through the phone hacking scandal at its now shuttered Blighty weekly, this news around the globe, the organization in This summer cast off intends to buy its British pay TV platform BSkyB and used the cash for any hefty $5 billion share repurchase, that is undoubtedly Wall Street's favorite utilization of supplemental income. "This is the interesting factor," stated one analyst. Using the stock buyback, the scandal "even becomes victoryInch for investors. "You will see fireworks in the meeting, but when you consider the current procedures, clients are going pretty much. Cable systems do great, broadcast expires from last year, the film side does fine." Inside a tough economy, ad revenue at Fox's domestic cable channels rose 23% for that fiscal 4th quarter led to June, the newest reported, brought by prices and rankings growth at Forex. Film profits increased 53%. Broadcast television saw greater local and national advertising and growing gold coin from retransmission consent deals. The shares are buying and selling at about $17, well above their 52-week low of $13.83. On Wednesday, they closed off 1.69% at $16.90 inside a lower market after striking $17.35 earlier within the day. "When the companies were not succeeding or even the hacking scandal propagates towards the U.S., then Rupert might have trouble,Inch stated one investor. He yet others remembered the maelstrom at Disney in 2004 when irate investors removed Michael Eisner from the chairmanship. He continued to be Boss. News Corp. investors also have requested the organization to separate the posts. The Disney coup succeed since the companies were not being run well, and Eisner wasn't well loved personally. And Disney is not a household-controlled company. Investor advisory groups within the U.S. and also the U.K. want radical changes towards the board, in some instances advocating traders to election lower 13 from the 15 company directors, including James, deputy Boss and chairman and mind of worldwide Rupert's earliest boy Lachlan and deputy chairman and chief operating officer Chase Carey. Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth was designed to have a board chair this summer time after News Corp. acquired her company Shine for $675 million, however the move was tabled following the phone hacking scandal faster. Amalgamated Bank, like a trustee for a number of funds, has sued against News Corp. in Delaware Chancery Court, accusing the Murdoch group of self getting the Shine acquisition and then improving the complaint to incorporate the telephone hacking scandal, so it claims may be the direct consequence of a negligent board. The judge within the situation has become thinking about News Corp.'s motion to dismiss. Some discover the outcry disingenuous. "Saying Murdoch makes some stupid purchases is much like saying it's pouring down rain water," stated one fund manager. Being "shocked, shocked" in regards to a cozy board or nepotism is pointless, he added, since Murdoch's been public about wanting dynastic succession at News Corp. "Who's surprised? You cannot complain about this stuff. You realize they are happening.Inch James' position as heir apparent, however, remains shaky because he faces another round of questioning before a U.K. Parliamentary committee the following month. Because the mind of News Intl. he approved a sizable out-of-court settlement for phone hacking victim Gordon Taylor, an old professional-soccer player and mind from the Professional Footballers' Assn. He states don't have any understanding of common abuse at that time but several former employees contradict him, stating that he was conscious of a bigger problem. Pressure increased on Wednesday as Julian Pike, an old lawyer for News Intl., claimed he saw proof of extensive hacking and informed company management. James has closed News around the globe newspaper in which the offenses happened and rejected a $six million bonus the board granted him for fiscal 2011. However, many on Wall Street and in the market think it possible he might be arrested, as have a number of the division's former employees, or fall on his sword and resign. "James would rather us to consider he is at a small way incompetent instead of completely dishonest," stated Mark Lewis, an attorney for U.K. hacking sufferers. There has been 63 hacking suits filed within the U.K. to date. Lewis, who signifies ten from the cases, stated only 400 of some 6,500 sufferers happen to be approached.News Corp. has put aside about $32 million to handle the steady stream of legal cases stemming in the phone-hacking scandal. However the eventual financial impact doesn't seem possible to calculate. "I essentially have no clue how large it will be," stated Alan Gould, an analyst with Evercore Partners. Within the summer time, once the scandal exploded, he put a $1 billion you'll need damages but confesses which was most likely an over-estimate. But it is still one a conglom how big News Corp. can digest. "It had been a U.K. paper doing the hacking and also the U.K. paper was closed," stated another analyst. "Just purely hypothetically, when they found something in the Wall Street Journal, at Fox, or in the Fox television stations, that might be an adverse."Lewis states they know of two People in america who have been compromised, in the U.K. He's requested NY lawyers, Norman Siegel, former director from the NY Civil Protections Union, and Steven Hyman of McLaughlin & Stern, to understand more about U.S. angles.
"We are doing research, searching for proof of hacking here. Or attempting to determine whether people at News Corp. in NY understood or must have known that which was happening there," Siegel stated. Based on what emerges, he stated he could request a Federal Court for authorization to consider depositions in NY that can help the U.K. lawsuit. "We believe that you will find real issues to become went after, and that we plan to pursue them," stated Hyman. Contact the range newsroom at news@variety.com

Roush Review: Lifetime's Five, HBO's Enlightened
Jeanne Tripplehorn They rarely make TV-movies like Lifetime's Five (Monday, 9/8c) any longer, and that i really wish they'd. A sensitively told problem-of-the-week anthology within the classic existence-re-inifocing tear-jerker tradition, our prime-profile talent is on sides from the camera during these connected vignettes coping with cancer of the breast. Although the subject material is wrenching, a dark tone here's much more about emotional uplift, emphasizing the significance of getting family members along for that fight. One of the company directors: Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Alicia Secrets, who are all aware much better than to obtain when it comes to a marvelous cast which includes Patricia Clarkson (signal the Emmy speech), Jeanne Tripplehorn, Rosario Dawson, Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Holloway.Want more Matt Roush? Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now!The very first segment, directed by Moore, is definitely an evocative short story-like piece occur 1969 like a family gathers to look at Apollo 11 touching lower around the moon, symbols of social progress. Things aren't quite as up-to-date within this household, like a young girl named Gem is stored at nighttime as her mother (Goodwin) lays dying in another room. Gem matures to become an understanding oncologist performed by Tripplehorn, and she's the hooking up thread towards the other tales - including those of "Mia" (directed by Aniston), an excellent character portrait told via a tapestry of flashbacks, as Mia (Clarkson) looks back around the 2 yrs since her diagnosis, a possible dying sentence that they takes rather like a challenge to reside existence towards the maximum. "I've not been excellent to individuals. I had been designed to die," states this memorable survivor, whose caustic mock funeral is really a highlight from the movie. The following anecdote, a good exotic dancer named "Cheyenne" (Nikita's Lyndsy Fonseca), comes with an O Henry-like quality, as Cheyenne worries, "What goes on whenever we lose our 'thing'?" - not only at work, but additionally in her own marriage to some handsome youthful loan shark. Humor may be the determining aspect in the sardonic story of "Lili" (Dawson), a completely independent career lady who attempts to ignore her domineering mother (Jenifer Lewis) and judgmental sister (Tracee Ellis Ross) from her management of this speed bump in her own busy existence. Easier in theory. The ultimate segment focuses back on Gem, that has spent years helping everybody else cope but must now face the condition mind-on and it is determined to not repeat the mistakes of her family. The title Five refers less towards the movie's episodic structure rather than a wall of tiles in Pearl's clinic, where cancer-free children reach "hug the wall" once they achieve 5-year milestone. It's symbolic of hope prone to resonate using the Lifetime audience. Also premiering tonight: a brand new Cinemax half-hour that's charged like a "comedy," but as always, it's difficult to inform. If this involves HBO's so-known as comedies, it isn't everything hard to curb our enthusiasm. (Although Ray David's lengthy-running hit was burning for a lot of the summer time.)Sundays are presently being thrown away on new seasons from the dreary Hung and just how to really make it in the usa. This relegates two more intriguing qualities to Mondays: the twee noir parody Bored to Dying (9/8c), which a minimum of has the design of a comedy (along with a strong indie-cred cast), and also the peculiar new Enlightened (9:30/8:30c) which feels a lot more like a Showtime dramedy in the concentrate on a broken female hero whose existence is not exactly fun riot. Our start looking at Amy (the electrifying Laura Dern) isn't a pretty one. She's mid-meltdown at corporate HQ, squealing just like a madwoman at individuals she gets harmed her, an action of career suicide. Expensive forward three several weeks to some changed and calmer Amy, enlightened following a Hawaiian self-help retreat along with a go swimming alongside a symbolic ocean turtle. She's now prepared to share her Zen, however the new touchy-feely Amy is faced with a world going to keep her at arm's length. Who are able to blame them? The issue here's that people can just learn Amy at these extremes, from PMS rage to PMA (positive mental attitude), even though Dern commits fully towards the role, Amy still feels as though a frustrating, aggravating caricature who most likely needs to be committed. Enlightened is clearly a deeply felt show, and also the cast is terrific, including Diane Ladd (Dern's real-existence mother) as Amy's skeptical mother, Luke Wilson as her pleasant drugged-out ex who resists her self-help efforts, and Mike Whitened (who co-produced the show with Dern) being an admiring mouse of the co-worker within the basement where she's discontentedly reassigned. If only I were as committed to Amy's journey as she's, but as she blathers on about becoming an agent of change at her uncaring corporation, I've found myself restless to alter the funnel to something that's really entertaining or, yes, informative.Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now!Tags: TV Guide Magazine, Matt Roush, Breaking News

How 'Girls Gone Wild' Uncovered TV's Direct-Response Industry
The nights are extended on cable, and not nearly enough several hours can contain ads for pricey cars, perfume and summer season blockbusters. So systems finish up based on direct-response advertising - from shortform spots to longform paid out programming - that exhorts audiences to behave fast and get, buy, buy. Systems don't always want their brands connected while using pushers in the male virility products, exercise equipment and acquire-wealthy-quick schemes that are this kind of major factor from the bottom lines and aren't exactly something to brag likely to Wall Street. Now, the fact a fast-rising star executive in direct-response marketing - John Fays, a 40-year-old former senior v . p . at MTV Systems - leaves Viacom following an analysis into accusations he was associated with an agenda that diverted vast amounts throughout a time of years expects to shine a simple round the largely not controlled direct-response advertising business. Co-employees inside the direct-response industry worry that any scandal could increase mistrust among clients, whilst it has been utilized by years to eliminate the dubious status born of scam products. The Federal trade commission and Food and drug administration required actions against a lot of products, including SNORenz, Copa Hair System and Thermoslim. Fays, who attended Fordham College and until recently hanging out the board in the Santa Ana, Calif.-based direct-response trade publication Response Magazine, grew to become an associate of MTV within the month of the month of january 2005 after stints at Lifetime Systems and USA Systems. He rose with a top ad-sales job within the network group. "An authentic hustler," states a classic Viacom ad executive who labored with Fays. Another former Viacom professional states Fays will be a master sales rep who considerably enhanced the business's direct-response business. "From the people saying, 'He can alter shit into Shinola,' " states they. At MTV, Fays oversaw direct-response advertising and paid out programming for a lot of of Viacom's 17 ad-supported cable systems, including MTV, VH1 and Comedy Central. But his business practices received scrutiny when Joe Francis, creator in the Women Gone Wild empire - an instantaneous-response mainstay - visited Viacom to profit by an alleged plan between among his employees and Fays to defraud him of money. Francis states he increased being alert to the program throughout an inside audit at his company that they overlooked the worker and complained to Viacom in the finish of 2008, which introduced to have an analysis. THR contacted the individual named by Francis, nevertheless the person did not return multiple phone calls. Viacom declined comment, as did Fays. It's unclear whether Viacom particularly found evidence of the accusations created by Francis, but an origin with understanding in the situation states the business acquired "credible information" regarding alleged misconduct by Fays and overlooked him (as THR first reported). Advertisements flooded the airwaves carrying out a 1984 decision with the Federal Communications Commission to get rid of rules that allowed for a maximum of 16 minutes of ads hourly. Out of the blue, media companies stood a new revenue stream. "It absolutely was money they didn't expect," states journalist Remy Stern, author of But Wait ... There's More! a 2009 book in regards to the industry. A couple of from the products and services hawked on advertisements through the intervening years, such as the Thighmaster, Showtime Rotisserie and Ginsu knives, are becoming symbols - mostly for your catchphrase-laden ads that promoted them. These spots really are a more compact amount pricey than standard television advertising, both to produce and get. Round the shortform side, a 60-second place could be produced for under $5,000, according to prices data from InfoWorx Direct Llc., an instantaneous-response marketing production company. That company's top-of-the-line package for just about any longform, 30-minute infomercial costs $125,000. (In comparison, an average 30-second TV place could be produced for approximately $300,000.) If the requires the cost of airtime, direct-response advertising can be a bargain. Lately, prime infomercial slots - typically weekend morning - have ranged from $20,000 to $50,000 for 30 minutes. In less-desirable time slots and also on obscure affiliate entrepreneurs, the half-hour cost can fall below $1,000. Direct-response entrepreneurs typically aren't taking into consideration the metrics blue-nick entrepreneurs concern yourself with, for instance brand awareness and positive association. Reams of knowledge help direct-response entrepreneurs determine exactly the amount of leads or sales an advert produces, though people rates of return are carefully held. Viacom does not use revenue from direct response a company source states it comprises about under ten percent of advertising revenue. But a classic insider at MTV Systems estimations that direct response produces much more revenue - about $800 million yearly. According to research firm SNL Kagan, Viacom attracted in $4.09 billion in web advertising revenue in the cable systems in fiscal 2010. "The part from the cake that direct response occupies, especially in the cable world, remains growing and growing for any very long time,Inch states Thomas Haire, editor in chief of Response. He estimations that direct-response advertising features in $5 billion to $6.5 billion for your cable industry throughout all the past four years. Fays rode that wave. A flattering 2007 profile of him responding noted any time the executive grew to become an associate of MTV Systems, it experienced "an unequalled surge" in direct-response revenue. Playboy reported that Fays, who reported to Rob Lucas, mind of ad sales at MTV Systems, oversaw a substantial team: 30 people, including 12 account professionals. Co-employees have expressed surprise inside the accusations that surround Fays, though it is said he made an appearance in your house inside the hard-driving arena of direct response. "The organization comes filled with business males who started within the premise you can invent a product, utilize it TV and then leave with millions," states an instantaneous-response executive who runs their very own firm. "There's a kind of high-curler attitude." It's a company that stresses expense-account entertainment, including lavish dinners inside the title of networking. Industry co-employees say Fays, who in December 2008 bought a condo for $3.38 million in the new luxury building with river sights in Tribeca, situated or attended extravagant nights at high-finish restaurants like Il Mulino in Greenwich Village and, according to one source, at strip clubs. That high-moving atmosphere is really a direct-response veterans admit draws mistrust. Author Stern states cable systems observe that sometimes, "individuals who're buying airtime aren't reliable people selling reliable products." While network standards-and-practices departments assess the moral, ethical and legal implications of advertisements and add disclaimers, that hasn't prevented the airing of direct-response ads for products for instance weight-loss and items that have shown being sheets. "You've systems coping with males who had been conning people for two-and-a-half decades, numerous whom have extended criminal offender records. However push is actually, 'We don't understand what you are selling,' " states Stern. Related Subjects Viacom MTV Systems Joe Francis 1 2 next last

Incorporated within this will probably be Make the most of Barnett, a classic programming executive at MTV, VH1 too for CBS Radio, who four years ago founded My Damn Funnel.com.He's being careful of speak and listen. Barnett states NATPE, which last The month of the month of january presented the same day extended program through the annual market and convention in Miami Beach, Florida, is filling essential along with several similar conferences. "In every single meeting, every single day, brands are trying to find innovation," referred to Barnett, Boss of a domain that presents free humorous videos, many featuring stars like Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill. It's nearly all internet marketer supported entertainment content that frequently includes product positions taken proper care of by entrepreneurs like Subway and IKEA. "They are searching to uncover methods for getting the information not just made but shared," added Barnett. "In my opinion you will observe lots of people speaking within the summit about social media and the way can you reach that goal very hard plateau that we call 'virality,' rather than simply 'viral videos.' It's what all of them thinks they require. In . At any time the old ideas appear tired, it seems new technology is creating options to mix the medium, this content as well as the sponsor as no time before. You're searching inside a world without plenty of rules," mentioned Barnett. "What we're all doing here's creating the next wise decision. In . For Ron Feldman, Boss of NATPE (the country's Association of Program Professionals), this really is really the most recent in many moves to develop the organization's mission. It makes sense progression of new programs in L.A. as well as the acquisition taken in the DISCOP market in Budapest taken. "NATPE talks for content and not for nearly any sort of platform or entrepreneurs," mentioned Feldman, adding: "Everyone knows entrepreneurs is going to be a lot more important in comparison to they've been for the reason that old media world since the cost of developing and creating content for on the web is less pricey. This gives entrepreneurs a lot more capacity to interact in many the data, frequently in an exceedingly initial phase because funding is important all over the world most of us live in.In . "Causeing this to be a celebration," added Feldman, "in the creative content as well as the funding and things which are carried out recent several days that hopefully set happens for just about any new trend in the way brands and content designers interact.Inch Whether it's effective, Feldman envisions the summit in NY City becoming an annual event. He isn't the only real individual who thinks the necessity could keep growing using this type of dialogue. "We've started to find out more and more people putting brands, ad agencies, content designers and entrepreneurs in the room together to find techniques to use to light up effective movie campaigns," mentioned Barnett. "So NATPE made a decision to put the flag reduced NY where numerous ad cash is centered. It's a day where every one of these different constituencies achieve think, talk and collaborate." Periods include "Convergence: Large Talent and enormous Brands Go Digital" "That are We Talking With? The ability of "Less" in the Complex World" and "Using the Searching Glass: What Can Content Designers Want?" Sound system furthermore to Barnett change from Hollywood producer Jordan Levin of Generate to David Freeman of CAA mixing with ad agency's professionals like Lori Schwartz of McCann Worldgroup The U . s . States, JWT's Peter Nicholson and Optimedia's Greg Kahn, grew to become an associate of by others for instance Chad Stubbs of Pepsi The U . s . States, Ellen Liu in the Clorox Company and Michael Wolff of Adweek Media. Feldman mentioned this should really spark a ongoing conversation between content designers and entrepreneurs that will continue Miami within the month of the month of january 2012, within the new NATPE market in Budapest, Hungary the following June, so when all goes well, in NY again next fall. Mary Elizabeth Winstead Gets Smashed
Sharing a bottle with Aaron PaulFighting murderous alien chameleons in the Antarctic would leave anyone in need of a stiff drink, which might explain why Mary Elizabeth Winstead has opted to follow The Thing with Smashed. If everyone signs on the appropriate lines, the indie drama will team Winstead with Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, in a story about a couple whose relationship is based on a mutual love of alcohol . Sadly, this leads not to Nick-and-Nora style adventuring, but AA meetings, where Winstead is sponsored by Octavia Spenser (The Help). Parks & Recreation's Nick Offerman is in talks to play an assistant headmaster at the school where Winstead teaches. Smashed is being described as a loose reworking of Blake Edwards' Days of Wine and Roses, although it sounds as if the Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick roles have been reversed for Winstead and Paul. The word dramedy also suggests it'll be considerably less gruelling than its progenitor. Will it be somewhere further along the lines of 28 Days? All will be revealed in the fullness of time. James Ponsoldt (Off the Black) is the writer/director, and shooting starts shortly. Watch Movies Free Online Now

'I Have No Clue How She Does It' Scribe Aline Brosh McKenna Offers 6 Suggestions to Writing a Effective Rom-Com
"I appear like I have not written enough traditional romantic comedies being smart regarding the subject [of romantic comedies]," film author Aline Brosh McKenna told Moviefone this year's week. That's exactly why she's a perfect person to talk about the well-worn genre: from 'The Demon Wears Prada' to '27 Dresses' to 'I Have No Clue How She Does It' (out now), McKenna has subverted a couple of from the traditional facets of rom-coms by getting a watch toward modernizing them for your twenty-first century. Ahead, six tips within the film author on writing a effective romantic comedy. 1. Don't always concern yourself with a regular love story "In three in the last four I've written, the primary focus is is this is not on the love story," McKenna mentioned. "The primary focus is one of the female character searching to obtain her existence together and her points of interest together and meet her goals. The love story is kind of an adjunct compared to that. I don't consider them a great deal as traditional romantic comedies. In my opinion lots of others do people well and so are centered on that than I am.Inch Which can be an optimistic factor, no less than on her behalf: "The higher traditional boy-meets-girl are extremely difficult to write. It's one reason I don't attempt them as much, because In my opinion they are really rare to find right." 2. Gain understanding in the best "Numerous the most popular ones are actually the Judd Apatow movies," McKenna mentioned when asked for about non-traditional romances. "Plenty of people have great romances. 'Knocked Up' and 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' are a handful of my absolute faves. They're doing have type of a few searching for their approach to each other." In addition, McKenna names 'Jerry Maguire' and 'Tootsie' of the same quality good examples of great films that have romantic elements. "They're romantic comedies, with techniques, but they're arriving online marketing from the purpose of look at the products is person coping with and exactly what are they prone to created however that allows these phones remain in rapport diversely. I'm never very considering stuff that's like, 'Oh, you're pretty.'" 3. Don't get worried about getting everything precisely within an adaptation With 'The Demon Wears Prada,' 'I Have No Clue How She Does It' as well as the approaching 'We Bought a Zoo' under her belt, McKenna is doing her great deal of literary adaptations. "I aim and determine what the essence in the story is. Just what the existence bloodstream in the story is. I'm less dedicated to the greater understanding about trying to transcribe what's inside the book, plus much more about trying to distill the essence from this. What's important relating to this, what moved people relating to this, and which of people things would transfer well with a movie idiom." That's very apparent in 'I Have No Clue How She Does It'. "We changed the story a good deal,Inch she mentioned, "however think [author Allison Pearson] feels we maintained the essence from the products she was trying to complete.Inch 4. Speaking about authors, avoid meeting them, initially "I'm inclined to talk to them when it's already in process for some reason -- that is not true every time, but that's the situation with 'Prada' in addition to 'I Have No Clue How She'll It,AInch McKenna mentioned. The primary reason? It helps it be simpler on her behalf to create. "Be it very personal material, it's helpful will be able to imagine it without meeting the one that written it, to be able to feel slightly freer to make a character which is not the person relaxing before me." 5. Don't get too ended laminator tl901 office Does McKenna ever attempt to determine why one movie connected with audiences and also the other did not? "In my opinion in the event you start second taking a chance a lot of it's a slippery slope. You must do your better to convey I connect to every part i really hope others do too. In my opinion there are many intangibles that will get together if this involves exactly why is something popular why is something a runaway hit. I aim to accomplish items that are significant in my opinion, which is nice if you pay attention to somebody that 'I love that' even if it was not the finest commercial hit." 6. Focus on real existence Since the effective romantic films released within the last few years have proven, audiences need to visit a thing that edges on reality. "In my opinion everybody loves seeing movies about how precisely people live their lives. I really do. About how precisely people make options. In my opinion a movie like 'Bridesmaids,' which type of described a thing that women understood they were dealing with but maybe hadn't seen onscreen, this can be a great factor when you're able to capture that. That was a situation where people really taken proper care of immediately that. It resonated with people.Inch Photo: Craig Blankenhorn/ The Weinstein Company

Bucky Larson Achieves Monumental 0% Rotten Tomatoes Rating
At the risk of piling on, today we need to recognize the rare cultural milestone achieved by Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. No, not its approval from a leader in the porn community, and not its status as one of the biggest mainstream flops in years. Nope. The Adam Sandler-produced, Nick Swardson-starring comedy has managed that ever-rare zero-percent approval rating among the critics of Rotten Tomatoes. Just when we thought The Undefeated was going to have a nice, long term as the site’s reigning stinker and Waiting For Forever might pull it out as the year’s most roundly loathed narrative film, along comes Bucky to change all that. Its ignominy grew into sharper relief over the weekend, as critics like our own Alison Willmore filed their reactions from public screenings (Sony declined to pre-screen the film) around the country. And wow did people hate this movie: · “There are movie atrocities, there are I-just-don’t-get-it comedies and then there’s Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. This god-awful, unfunny, stinkingly putrid sketch-comic movie has exactly one snicker-worthy moment, involving Kevin Nealon and a stolen grape. […] That snicker is the loneliest sound throughout all of Bucky Larson, which stands alone as the most moronic comedy in ages.” — Joe Neumaier, NY Daily News · “This is cinema only insofar as Taco Bell can be called a healthy snack, cobbled together with broken parts from Hollywood’s junk drawer and enough song cues and big names (Don Johnson, sadly par for the course in his post-Miami Vice career) to create the illusion of entertainment. If you’re of the opinion that Napoleon Dynamite wasn’t cruel enough to its characters, Bucky Larson’s for you. You may or may not laugh, but at least you’ll be closer to death and no better for it.” —Rob Humanick, Slant · “It occurs to me that Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star may have been made […] to console every actor who has ever been in a movie that is a little less bad than this one. Let me put the matter another way: this may be the worst movie Pauly Shore has ever been in. Think about that. If you dare, go on Netflix and test the hypothesis.” — A.O. Scott, The New York Times Ouch. At least there’s always a DVD pullquote from Joanna Angel. Laika to adapt The Decemberists singer's 'Wildwood'
'Wildwood' was written by The Decemberists singer Colin Meloy and illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis.'Coraline'Laika is looking to its own backyard for its most ambitious project yet. The Portland, Ore.-based animation studio behind "Coraline" has optioned "Wildwood," a young-adult fantasy novel set in an alternate version of the Oregon capital, written by the Decemberists lead singer Colin Meloy and illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis."Wildwood," published last week by HarperCollins' Balzer and Bray imprint, marks the first book in a proposed trilogy centering around Prue McKneel, a young lady who must confront a world filled with magic and danger after her younger brother is kidnapped, forcing her to enter the Impassable Wilderness."It's a story in the grand tradition of Tolkien, as big as 'Lord of the Rings' with a wonderful contemporary quality as well," Laika prexy-CEO Travis Knight told Variety. "Nothing of its kind has been attempted in our medium. You have these epic scenes alongside very nuanced character moments, which are the two hardest things to do in stop-motion. It's exciting to imagine how this might all come together."Though Laika has previously resisted the idea of doing sequels, Knight said the company is approaching "Wildwood" with the hope of adapting all three parts of the trilogy.Laika will add "Wildwood" to a development slate that contains a mix of adaptations and original projects. The toon studio is deep in production on its next 3D stop-motion feature, "ParaNorman," which Focus will release on Aug. 17, 2012. Laika has yet to announce its 2014 release.According to Knight, Meloy and Ellis were so protective of the property that they originally told their agent they would allow the book to be optioned only if the adaptation could be done in the style of either "Watership Down" or stop-motion. "I think it was literally the next day that we called them up and said, 'We'd love to do this project with you,'" he said."Hands down, there is no other movie studio in the world besides Laika that I would entrust 'Wildwood' to," Meloy said. When it came time to commission a toon trailer for the book's release, based on Ellis' illustrations, HarperCollins and the authors approached the same studio that will ultimately adapt the novel."When we visited the studio and saw all the brilliant creative work happening there -- someone building a waist-high New England village, someone else sewing pinhead-sized rivets on tiny blue jeans -- we were won over completely," Ellis said.Meloy and Ellis were repped in the deal by Steven Malk of Writers House.
